Sam Collier- Will he start a Music Movement?

“I’m just a few minutes away” the voice assured me on other end of the phone as we set up on Peachtree & 10th. Moments later Sam Collier arrived as promised, his “A” hat cocked to one side. He was refreshingly humble, winsome and prepared as he shared the deepest passion of his heart–inspiring people to win in every area of their life. For him NO LOSING is more than a song or the title of his new mix tape but  a  Lifestyle Revolution.

He’s 22 years old, a singer, songwriter, musician, activist, music director and most recently motivational speaker. Busy with his NO LOSING Campaign, he tours schools and youth organizations telling anyone who will listen how they are created for greatness. Recently he helped kickoff “100 Days of Nonviolence” at Coretta Scott King Elementary School, a push to combat the rise of bullying among youth. He’s a young man who knows who he his and the boy can sing too.

One might expect this son of a pastor to sing gospel music but for Sam that’s not a box he wishes to live in. “I think right now there’s an epidemic. I think the epidemic is either I’m gospel or I’m dropping it in the club, or I’m selling drugs or I got these guns and I’m about to take you out. We need music that’s right down the middle to paint a picture that says hey-do your dream. Believe in yourself. Hey–women you’re beautiful. Hey men-be strong.”

He’s written for India.Arie and shared the stage with recording artists like Tyrese Gibson, Kirk Franklin, D. Woods, and Tye Tribett. His influences are Donnie Hathaway, Boyz II Men, the late great King of Pop, and Stevie Wonder. His NO LOSING Mixtape flips popular tracks into positive anthems like Wayne and Bird Man’s “100 Million”, and Diddy’s Dirty Money “A$$ on the Floor” into the title track “No Losing.” But perhaps what’s most intriguing  is his undeniable respect for his female fans. Songs like “Heaven Sent” and “Falling Star” (written when he was only 15 years old) delivers lyrics that females young and old have been longing to hear.

When asked what he wants to accomplish with his music he takes a moment and delivers a list that would make MJ proud. “I think some words that best describe it is Love. I want to bring hope. I want to bring truth. I want to bring inspiration. I want to have fun. I want to bring awareness to things that are destroying our world. I want to paint a picture of the best life we could possibly live.”

When our interview was done I was inspired to win and follow my Purple Sky dreams. No Losing. That’s who Sam Collier is. That’s what Sam Collier is about.
